| CURRICULUM Both the Taekwondo and Modern Arnis programs at Chang's follow a standardized curriculum. Each is set up to teach the art in a logical progression and to comply with requirements set out by either the World Taekwondo Federation or the International Modern Arnis Federation. This ensures that you learn the most current material and that your black belt rank will be internationally certified by a legitimate, recognized governing body. RANKING IN TAEKWONDO AND MODERN ARNIS Both Taekwondo and Modern Arnis use a belt ranking system. The purpose of these ranking systems is to provide students with concrete goals to work toward during their courses of study. The belt also indicates a student's level of knowledge and experience. While higher ranked students are generally more skilled, belt color does not necessarily indicate the student's skill level. Lower ranked students may be more athletic, flexible or faster learners. They simply haven't been around as long. The belt should represent satisfactory completion of minimum requirements and a measurement of personal accomplishment. Even high ranking students must continue to practice, learn and improve. PROMOTION As students gain experience and learn new skills, they have the opportunity to advance in rank. All rank at Chang's Martial Arts Academy is earned. Our standards are high and we do not rush students through the ranks. Each program has a written syllabus with specific requirements that must be met before advancing. To reach the next rank in Taekwondo, students must pass a formal test before a panel of master instructors. Promotion requirements are different for each level but generally consist of the following:
2. Basic techniques and stances 3. Kicking techniques 4. Forms (Poomse) 5. Self-defense 6. Sparring 7. Breaking 8. Oral exam 9. Physical skill requirements Modern Arnis rank exams are given either in class by the instructor or before a board of examiners at an area training camp . Modern Arnis has its own, separate set of rank requirements which include:
2. Stances and footwork 3. Hand and foot strikes 4. Empty-hand blocks and parries 5. Breakfalls 6. Locks, throws and groundfighting 7. Stick strikes, blocks, patterns and drills 8. Stick and empty-hand forms 9. Etiquette, questions, theory and focus points 10. Knife and espada y daga |
