| ABOUT THE SCHOOL Chang's Martial Arts Academy, belongs to an association of eight, individually owned, Chicago area schools bearing the Chang's name. The schools are named in honor of the owners' teacher, Grandmaster Chang Seo Park. The Lincolnwood dojang (school) is owned and operated by Chief Instructor Chuck Westcott. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Chief Instructor Chuck Westcott has been involved with martial arts for over 20 years. He currently holds multiple black belts in Taekwondo and Modern Arnis. "Mr. Chuck" is a graduate of Northwestern University and the DePaul University College of Law. He opened the Lincolnwood Chang's in June of 2004. ABOUT THE ARTS Chang's Martial Arts Academy offers instruction in two martial arts. Study of either of these arts will provide the student with intense physical and mental training as well as practical self defense skills. Tae Kwon Do is a modern Korean martial art and sport, primarily concerned with striking. It is similar in many ways to Karate, but relies more heavily upon kicking techniques. The name Tae Kwon Do roughly translates as "Way of the Foot and the Fist". Taekwondo has been an Olympic sport since its introduction at the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympic games. Modern Arnis is an eclectic Filipino art that combines stick and knife fighting, empty hand fighting and jujitsu locks and throws. It was developed by the late Grandmaster Remy Amador Presas and was introduced to the United States in the late 1970s. More information about Arnis is located on our Modern Arnis page or is available at www.modernarnis.net. |
